Kearny High School is part of the San Diego Unified School District. In 2010, AMSOLAR entered into a broad partnership with the District to provide parking lot and rooftop solar facilities capable of meeting 11% of the District’s power needs under a power purchase agreement.Kearny High opened in 1943. The school now serves 1,714 students in Grades 9-12 from a wide range of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. In 2004, Kearny transformed from a traditional high school into a campus with four separate small schools, each with an emphasis on a different field of study: the School of Science, Connections and Technology, the School of Digital Media Design, the Construction Tech Academy and the School of International Business.
The 518 kW solar facility will be located at the campus’ main parking lot and will meet approximately 73% of the school’s electricity needs.
